2030 World Cup to Strengthen Mediterranean Relations, Says FRMF President

Marrakech: The 2030 Football World Cup is set to be a major historic event that will enhance cooperative relations between the two shores of the Mediterranean, as emphasized by Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) and head of the “2030 World Cup Committee.” This statement was made during his speech, delivered by FRMF advisor and spokesman Mohamed Makrouf at the 33rd General Assembly of the Alliance of Mediterranean News Agencies (AMAN) in Marrakech.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Lekjaa highlighted the significance of the 2030 World Cup, describing it as the “World Cup of the Mediterranean,” uniting the continents of Africa and Europe. He expressed confidence that the event would transcend borders, noting that no other sporting event has embodied such diversity. Lekjaa assured that Morocco, Spain, and Portugal are committed to organizing an “exemplary” World Cup that will not only make history in world football but also strengthen cooperation between the Mediterranean shores.

Lekjaa further emphasized the involvement of HM King Mohammed VI, who is personally overseeing the preparations. The King believes in the event’s potential to promote lofty values among nations and young people seeking a brighter future. In his address, Lekjaa also underscored the crucial role of media, describing them as a fundamental pillar in the football ecosystem. The success of major sporting events, he noted, relies heavily on the active participation of news agencies through comprehensive multi-media coverage.

He acknowledged news agencies as the “soldiers in the shadows,” playing a vital role in event coverage while adhering to ethical standards. This commitment offers credible services to professionals and the public alike. The opening ceremony, themed “Football and Media in the Mediterranean: Building Bridges Beyond Borders,” also featured remarks from Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication.

The 33rd AMAN General Assembly, chaired by MAP for the year, serves as a platform to highlight Morocco’s large-scale projects under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, in preparation for hosting the 2030 Football World Cup.
