DGSN Open Days Highlight Drones in Security Operations

Rabat: One of the major novelties at the 6th Open Days of the Directorate General of National Security (DGSN) is the drones pavilion, a space dedicated to the accelerated transition towards the digitalization of security action. In fact, this pavilion highlights the growing role of state-of-the-art technologies in strengthening the effectiveness of field interventions and developing surveillance and quick response systems to counter security threats.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, this space provides Open Days visitors with the opportunity to discover these smart drones and their integration into the daily work of the forces of law and order, as prime tools in the arsenal of modern high-tech equipment designed to meet the challenges of maintaining public order.

As part of a renewed approach to modernizing logistics and operational support, the DGSN has set up central brigades specialized in the deployment and piloting of drones, to support the various national and international events organized th
roughout the country, said Divisional Commissioner Mohamed Mrabet, head of division at the DGSN’s Public Security Directorate.

He added that these brigades are staffed by qualified personnel, noting that, thanks to the overview they offer, drones help to strengthen coordination on the ground and provide strategic support for security operations, thanks to sophisticated technology used in strict compliance with the legislative framework, notably Law No. 09-08 on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data.

He explained that drones are used to supervise major events, particularly sporting events, by identifying and monitoring behavior likely to undermine public order, and dealing with it proactively and effectively.

They are also used in operations to combat irregular migration, particularly in hard-to-reach areas, enabling security services to cover large distances and better anticipate the nature of interventions required, with speed and precision.

In terms of road traffic
and movement, drones have become an effective tool for detecting certain types of reprehensible behavior, such as the pursuit of hit-and-run cars whose drivers refuse to obey police orders, enabling them to be located and guiding units in the field to intervene in accordance with current procedures.

They are also used to mount patrols and reinforce security presence in urban areas, where they serve as a flexible alternative to traditional patrols in monitoring traffic flows and detecting suspicious situations, enabling more efficient management of human resources.

The integration of these technologies into security operations reflects the DGSN’s determination to keep pace with global developments in AI, so as to ensure more targeted, proactive intervention and enhance the ability of security services to react quickly and effectively to different situations in the field.
