Rabat: In a statement to the press, El Khalfi emphasized that Morocco has taken great strides concerning freedom of expression, including the freedom to demonstrate peacefully in accordance with the legal provisions in force, noting that the available figures confirm this, given that over 600 protests registered monthly were carried out under normal conditions.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, El Khalfi also said that the majority of arrests during recent protests were for the purpose of identity verification, while cases of police custody involved only those who had committed proven criminal acts such as disruption of traffic on public roads, arson, throwing stones at law enforcement officers, and damage to public and private property.
El Khalfi further explained that all intervention operations were carried out transparently in accordance with the law and in conditions that permitted the media to follow up and freely report on the unfolding events, without any form of restriction, guidance, or interference. This approach reflects Morocco’s respect for the right to information and ensures that security measures are monitored with full transparency.
