Mohammed VI International Polo Trophy: Morocco Advance to Final after Commanding Win over Portugal


Morocco: Morocco’s national polo team has secured its place in the final of the 6th Mohammed VI International Polo Trophy after a convincing 9-to-4 victory over Portugal on Thursday at the PGH La Palmeraie Polo Club in Assilah.



According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, facing a Portuguese side known for its discipline and competitiveness, the Moroccan team delivered a composed and efficient performance. From the opening stages, the hosts controlled the tempo, steadily widening the gap and ensuring a comfortable and deserved win.



Following the match, Moroccan player Taissir Kadiri praised the collective performance of the national squad, highlighting the team’s cohesion and focus. He noted that preparations are now fully centered on the upcoming final against the United States.



On the Portuguese side, Tiago Gallego acknowledged Morocco’s superiority throughout the contest, stating that his team had fought until the end but was ultimately outperformed.



Earlier in the day, the United States also booked their place in the final after defeating Saudi Arabia 11-5.5, setting up a Morocco-U.S. showdown for the title.



Both finalists have shown strong form throughout the tournament. Morocco opened their campaign with an 8-6.5 win over Hungary, while the United States previously overcame France 10-6 in their own opening fixture.



Organized by the Royal Moroccan Polo Federation (FRMP) under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, the competition brings together six international teams: Morocco, the United States, Hungary, Saudi Arabia, Portugal, and France.



Beyond its sporting significance, the tournament reflects Morocco’s broader ambition to promote polo nationally and internationally, showcase the country’s sporting infrastructure, and strengthen ties of friendship with participating nations.
