Rabat: Morocco and Slovakia have reaffirmed their determination to further strengthen their bilateral cooperation in all areas of common interest and concurred to promote regional and international cooperation to address global challenges, particularly in the areas of peace and security.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, a Joint Statement was issued following talks between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and the Slovak Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Juraj Blan¡r. The statement highlighted the commitment of both countries to deepen bilateral relations in political, economic, cultural, and scientific fields.
The two parties agreed on the importance of enhancing political dialogue and promoting high-level visit exchanges. A Memorandum of Understanding establishing a mechanism for political consultations between the two ministries was signed by both ministers to further this dynamic.
Morocco and Slovakia emphasized the need to foster regional and global cooperation to tackle challenges such as peace and security, conflict prevention, climate change, security, migration, and sustainable development, as noted in the Joint Statement.
On the parliamentary front, the ministers stressed the importance of interparliamentary contacts to boost exchanges, particularly within the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) framework.
In cultural contexts, the two nations recognized bilateral cooperation’s role in promoting human and economic development, particularly in science, research, innovation, and the blue economy. They also emphasized strengthening exchanges at intergovernmental and civil society levels.
The Joint Statement highlighted the importance of invigorating economic cooperation in sectors of mutual interest, including energy, environmental protection, logistics, agriculture, the automotive industry, and green technologies. Both parties expressed their willingness to facilitate trade by simplifying customs procedures, expanding market access, and implementing trade agreements effectively. They also aim to promote mutual investments, particularly by supporting SMEs, and plan to organize business forums regularly.
Morocco and Slovakia reaffirmed their mutual commitment to enhancing dialogue and cooperation in security and migration, focusing on combating irregular migration. They also agreed to deepen collaboration in the fight against terrorism.
At the United Nations level, both countries welcomed their mutual support for each other’s candidacies for the UN Security Council for the 2028-2029 term. They expressed willingness to coordinate actions to maintain international peace and security and committed to ongoing consultation and coordination within international organizations on multilateral issues of common interest, as stated in the Joint Statement.
