Paris: Morocco’s Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch represented His Majesty King Mohammed VI at a national tribute ceremony in Paris for the late French philosopher and writer Edgar Morin, who passed away on May 29. The event, chaired by French President Emmanuel Macron, was held at the H´tel National des Invalides, with Morin’s widow, Moroccan sociologist Sabah Abouessalam, and other family members and close friends in attendance. Morocco’s ambassador to Paris, Samira Sitail, also participated in the ceremony.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, French Prime Minister S©bastien Lecornu, members of the government, and notable French political figures were present. During the ceremony, Akhannouch conveyed a message of condolences and sympathy from His Majesty the King to Morin’s family. The message highlighted Edgar Morin’s deep connection to Morocco, where he built enduring friendships and frequently reflected on the country’s historical roots and cultural contributions.
His Majesty the King emphasized Morin’s contributions to intellectual discourse, recalling his participation in gatherings both in Morocco and at prestigious institutions worldwide. The King’s message noted that Morin’s intellectual influence and warm personality left a significant impact on generations of thinkers and students. “All those who had the honor of knowing him hold him in special esteem and affection, and they will never forget him,” stated His Majesty the King.
