Civitanova: President of the Royal Moroccan Federation of Sport for All (FRMSPT) Nezha Bidouane was re-elected on Saturday in Civitanova, central Italy, as a member of the board of directors of the International Federation of Sport for All (FISpT) for a second four-year term. This reappointment took place during the elective congress of this international sports body held on January 24 and 25.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, on the same occasion, FISpT President Issa Mohammed Abderrahim of Bahrain was reappointed as head of the Federation for a new term. The re-election of Bidouane, two-time world champion in the 400m hurdles, bronze medalist at the Sydney Olympics, and gold medalist at the World Cup in Johannesburg in 1998, confirms the Kingdom’s strong influence on continental, regional, and international sports bodies and enshrines national sports diplomacy, a true soft power that enhances Morocco’s influence.
In a statement to the press, Bidouane expressed her delight at her re-election, emphas
izing that the trust of partners from several countries on four continents testifies to the key role of the FRMSPT and the esteem and respect bestowed upon it by members of this international sports body. This elective congress, she said, was an opportunity for representatives of brotherly and friendly countries to meet and exchange views, demonstrating their firm commitment to participating in the second edition of the International Festival of Traditional Games and Sports, which the Royal Federation plans to host soon in Guercif.
For his part, Issa Mohammed Abderrahim took the opportunity to praise Morocco’s pioneering role in promoting sport for all, in particular, and various sports disciplines, in general, stressing that “the Kingdom is now establishing itself as a model to follow.” The extraordinary general assembly and elective congress of FISpT were attended by 101 members representing 35 countries from four continents. At this meeting, it was decided to transfer the FISPT headquarters to the Italian
capital, Rome. Founded in 1982 in Strasbourg, France, the Federation had been based in Manama, Bahrain, since 2009.
