Vienna: Morocco’s Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance (DGSN-DGST), Abdellatif Hammouchi, is conducting a working visit to Vienna, leading a senior security delegation. The visit, taking place from May 5-7, involves activities and consultation meetings focused on multilateral security and intelligence cooperation, organized by relevant UN offices. The agenda also includes discussions on strengthening bilateral cooperation with Austrian security and intelligence officials.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the visit is part of Morocco’s participation in the 23rd regional meeting by heads of intelligence and security services, organized by the UN at the Vienna International Center. This meeting aims to pool regional efforts to address the threats posed by terrorist organizations. Morocco joins security and intelligence officials from countries including the UAE, Jordan, KSA, Iraq, Libya, Oman, Tunisia, Sudan, Turkey, and Pakistan.
During the meeting, Hammouchi outlined Morocco’s integrated and multidimensional approach in combating terrorism and extremism. He also highlighted the current ramifications of terrorist threats in various conflict zones globally. The discussions also covered the challenges emerging from terrorist threats and strategies to confront them through a collective approach.
In Vienna, Hammouchi held discussions with his Austrian counterpart, Sylvia Mayer, Head of State Security and Intelligence. Their talks focused on strengthening bilateral security partnerships to improve joint cooperation mechanisms and tackle common threats. Topics included migration, cross-border crime, human trafficking, terrorism, money laundering, and arms and drug trafficking. The exchange of information on internationally wanted individuals was also addressed.
The Austrian official commended the significant support from Morocco’s national police, which has helped thwart dangerous terrorist plots and apprehend extremists in Austria. She expressed interest in learning from Morocco’s experience, emphasizing the safety and stability that Morocco maintains.
In addition to Austrian officials, the Moroccan delegation engaged with representatives from Pakistan, Turkey, and Oman to explore ways to enhance cooperation with these countries. The visit underscores Morocco’s prominent position and active role in international security efforts, reflecting the trust and credibility placed in Moroccan security services by European and regional partners.
