Morocco’s Top Senator Engages in Bilateral Talks with Poland’s Parliamentary Leader

Rabat: The Speaker of the House of Councilors, Mohamed Ould Errachid, held talks on Tuesday in Rabat with the Chairman of the Morocco-Poland Parliamentary Friendship Group, Marcin Gwozdz, who is on a working visit to Morocco. This meeting was an opportunity to review various aspects of bilateral relations and to exchange points of view on several regional and international issues of common interest, the Upper House said in a press release.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the two parties praised the strength and dynamism of Moroccan-Polish relations, which date back to 1959, emphasizing that they are backed by a foundation of common values and principles relating notably to human rights, the consecration of the values of peace and tolerance, as well as respect for national sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs.

On this occasion, Ould Errachid highlighted the strong political will driving both countries to develop their economic cooperation, noting the significant number of bilateral conventions as well as the volume of trade, which is projected to exceed $11.2 billion by 2025. He also stressed the importance of taking advantage of the advanced partnership between Morocco and the European Union to raise economic cooperation to the level of the solid political ties uniting the two friendly countries.

Regarding the issue of the Kingdom’s territorial integrity, Ould Errachid welcomed the Polish position considering the autonomy plan, presented by Morocco in 2007, as the serious, realistic, and pragmatic basis for settling the artificial dispute over the Moroccan Sahara. Furthermore, the Speaker of the House of Councilors emphasized the pioneering role of the Parliamentary Friendship and Cooperation Groups in supporting the renewed dynamics of bilateral relations, through the intensification of visits and the sharing of expertise, particularly in the fields of economic and commercial cooperation, as well as in the fight against the challenges of immigration, terrorism, and organized crime.

For his part, Gwozdz welcomed the advanced level reached by bilateral relations, praising the security and stability enjoyed by the Kingdom of Morocco. He also stressed the importance of activating and coordinating the action of the two Parliamentary Friendship and Cooperation Groups in the service of the interests of the two peoples. He also expressed his optimism regarding the prospects for increasing the volume of trade, given the promising potential available to both countries, particularly in the tourism sector, as well as the possibility of creating new air links capable of strengthening rapprochement and opening wider perspectives for cooperation and development.
