New york: Zambia has confirmed its unwavering support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara region. This announcement was made by Zambian representative Haimbe after a meeting with Nasser Bourita, the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, during the 80th UN General Assembly. Haimbe emphasized the indivisibility of Morocco and the Sahara, highlighting this as a longstanding position of Zambia.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Haimbe expressed Zambia’s eagerness to maintain and enhance its cooperation with Morocco, emphasizing the relationship as one of friendship, brotherhood, and alliance. The reaffirmation comes after the signing of several partnership agreements in Laayoune during the inaugural Morocco-Zambia Joint Commission meeting in December 2024. These agreements are aimed at bolstering the ongoing commitments between the two nations.
Haimbe noted that through this partnership, Zambia aims to serve as Morocco’s gateway to Southern Africa, benefiting the citizens of both countries. He also announced that the next session of the joint commission is planned for 2026 in Lusaka, which will provide an opportunity to sustain the collaborative momentum in a spirit of unity and mutual respect.
