Attempts to Tarnish Morocco’s Image in Africa during AFCON Doomed to Fail – Former Cabo Verdean FM

Rabat: Malicious attempts to tarnish Morocco’s image or undermine its relations with African countries are doomed to failure, as they come up against the depth of their centuries-old ties and the credibility of coherent and responsible African action in the interests of the continent, said former Cabo Verdean Minister of Foreign Affairs and Defense, Lus Filipe Tavares.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Tavares emphasized that Morocco’s strong relations with African countries, particularly Senegal, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, are part of a profound dynamic based on a long shared history, a common vision of Africa, and a shared destiny, patiently built over the years.

The former head of Cabo Verdean diplomacy stated that the Kingdom’s ties with Africa are strategic, human, and civilizational, extending far beyond the temporary emotions associated with a sporting event such as the Africa Cup of Nations. These connections underscore an ongoing commitment to South-South cooperation, African solidarity, and co-development, grounded in mutual respect and lasting trust.

Tavares further highlighted that sport should remain a unifying force among African peoples and should not be manipulated to create discord and division. He recalled Morocco’s consistent efforts, under the leadership of His Majesty the King, to reinforce inter-African relations grounded in brotherhood, respect, and a shared future.
