Rabat: The Moroccan Parliament will host the proceedings of the 83rd session of the Executive Committee of the African Parliamentary Union (APU) on May 21-22.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, this agenda will focus on issues related to membership in the Union, the follow-up on the implementation of decisions and recommendations, as well as the approval of the annual action program and draft budget for the 2025 financial year. The Executive Committee will also consider the draft agendas for the 47th Union Conference and the 84th session of the Executive Committee, in addition to setting the date and venue for the latter.
Founded in Abidjan on February 13th, 1976, the APU is a continental parliamentary organization that currently comprises 41 national member parliaments. It serves as a platform for dialogue and cooperation among national parliaments across the African continent. The Union aims to strengthen joint African parliamentary action, promote peace, democracy, good governance and sustainable development, and promote communication among African parliamentarians as well as their counterparts from other continents.
Acting as one of the Union’s governing bodies, the Executive Committee consists of three members in each national group, elected by the Conference for a two-year term. It is tasked with overseeing the implementation of decisions and recommendations, adopting the action program, approving the budget, and enhancing relations with regional and international organizations.
